Lewes, Delaware- April 1, 2016-  During the Lewes Lunch & Learn on Friday, April 15, at noon in Hotel Rodney, Denise Bridgens will present "Early Colonial Family Life."  This is the last Lewes Lunch & Learn of the spring season, returning in the fall of 2016. In the interim summer months join us for History Happy Hour lectures taking place weekly Friday afternoons.

Denise Bridgens, will discuss family life during the 17th and 18th centuries focusing on some of The Lewes Historical Society’s preserved historic buildings including The Early Plank House, The Rabbit’s Ferry House, and The Burton Ingram House. Discover some of the interesting hardships our early founding families went through in order to make a life for themselves in a new country and later a new nation.

Ms. Bridgens, who will be presenting in historic garb states, "I am fascinated by how newly arrived families to New World coped with lack of housing, as well as facing multiple hardships. The first generation of settlers managed to establish a foothold in what became "The First Town in the First State." It’s an inspiring thing to look back to not just our founding fathers, but our founding families."

The Lewes Historical Society hosts presentations called “Lewes Lunch & Learns,” which include various topics relating to the history of Lewes and surrounding area. This series of presentations are led by local history buffs, heritage area experts, and museum professionals. Lectures take place on announced dates, beginning at noon in the downstairs meeting room of the Hotel Rodney at the corner of Second and Market Streets. These events are free and open to the public.  Space is limited.  Seating is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. It is suggested that attendees bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy during the lecture.
