Bags 2 Mats for the Homeless with DE 50+ at South Coastal Library
Did you know that April is National Volunteer month? Volunteer your time and make a difference in someone's life by helping DE 50+ turn recycled plastic bags into plastic mats for the homeless! Volunteers have been making mats for the homeless out of plastic bags for years!
Join South Coastal Library in gathering plastic bags, turning them into plarn (plastic yarn), crocheting, and giving mats to the homeless. Volunteers will learn the process of turning the bags in "plarn" (plastic yarn) and will work on doing so during this program. Volunteers with crocheting skills will be invited to use the "plarn" that is made to crochet a plastic mat. Completed projects can be finished at home and drop-off/pickup will be organized by Delaware 50+ team. Crochet needles will be provided (limited supplies), but we encourage volunteers interested in the crocheting part of this program to bring your own size N hook.
Statewide, this program has given out more than 400 sleeping mats since 2019! For more information, contact Bobbi Jo Tice with Delaware 50+ at 302-515-3020.
Registration is appreciated but optional.
